One of the most frequently brought up verses by atheist friends are is the marriage of our Prophet to the wife of his adopted son, Zaid. Looking at this verse, they say that the Qur’an is a Book written by the Prophet Muhammad for his personal interests.
First of all, we are convinced that atheists do not know atheism very well. Because there is no concept of “morality” in the literature of atheism and can’t base morality. There is no connection between atheism and morality. There is no “good or bad” opinion about the moral code of atheism. They can’t make any evaluation. Because the moral code is based on religion. Religion is there to raise virtuous people. It offers the most suitable lifestyle for the nature of man.
The marriage of Zaid, the adopted son of the Prophet, after he left his wife is also not immoral. It is as natural as marrying your closest friend’s wife. Even if they do not admit it, a lot of people may like the wife of their friend etc. It’s not unusual, and also not immorality. Immorality is when you enter into relationship with her when she is married.
Until recently, when someone says homosexual, the people would give name to them. But now, this case is normalized by intense conviction in the community. However, this is an action that the Muslims in Qur’an are « against it with hate » and a disgusting relationship, and every Muslim seek refuge in Allah from this situation. It is an interesting fact that those who advocate this sort of relationship and see it as “their choice and freedom” are so attached to the marriage of prophet with the wife of the prophet’s adopted son. Zaid is not the real son of our Prophet. So, there is no blood connection
If we come to another topic; The related verse tells what happened after the incident. So Zaid didn’t divorce his wife after the verse came. Let’s look at the first part of the verse; ” When you said to him whom Allah had blessed, and you had favored, “Keep your wife to yourself, and fear Allah.” But you hid within yourself what God was to reveal. And you feared the people, but it was Allah you were supposed to fear.” (al-Ahzab Surah 37) The Prophet advises Zaid. ”Keep your wife to yourself, and fear Allah ”. As he advises to keep his wife next to him, there is likely to be a disagreement between them.
Let’s look at the second part of the verse; ” Then, when Zaid ended his relationship with her, We gave her to you in marriage, that there may be no restriction for believers regarding the wives of their adopted sons, when their relationship has ended. The command of Allah was fulfilled.” (al-Ahzab Surah 37) In the first part, the Prophet gave advice to Zaid to keep his wife with him. But this has not happened and Zaid has divorced from his wife. After separation, marriage with the Prophet took place. And after the marriage was take place, the verse came. Because the verse is telling about a finished event. Not an event that will take place. Then, as atheists argue, the Prophet does not have the obligation to make such a verse for his own desires.
If the prophet has this intention, and wrote Qur’an himself, he wouldn’t limit marriage with” Beyond that, no other women are permissible for you, nor can you exchange them for other wives, even if you admire their beauty, except those you already have.” (al-Ahzab Surah 52) surah. (Allah knows the best)
